Timing Belt Replacements Will Benefit Your Engine

Your timing belt is what connects your car's crankshaft to the camshaft, which controls the opening and closing of your engines valves. In some engines, the timing belt may also be used to drive other crucial engine components, such as the water pump or the oil pump. Engine manufacturers recommend replacing the timing belt at specific intervals, ranging from 60,000 miles to 105,000 miles, depending on the vehicle's make and model.

There are two types of engine classifications. Free wheeling engines, where valve to piston contact in the event of belt failure is highly unlikely, or an interference engine, where belt failure can lead to serious engine damage when an open valve can make contact with the piston. In most instances, there will be no warning signs at all of timing belt failure.

If you have recently purchased a vehicle and do not know its service history, a visual inspection of the belt's condition should be considered. Contact the professional at Aurora Clutch and More if you have any questions or would like to know which type of engine your vehicle has.
